FAA SMS Mandate – 1 Year Countdown to Requirement for Charter’s

On May 28th of 2027…a year from now, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements to implement a Safety Management System (SMS) for charter airlines, commuter airlines, air tour operators, and certain aircraft manufacturers go live.  Is your operation ready?  Is your SMS Program demonstrable, and more importantly than just ‘checking the box’, are you utilizing it to truly stay as safe as possible and continuously find ways to improve your operation?  Polaris Aero is available to assist you in your journey, whether just starting or looking to enhance what you already have.

SMS provides a systematic approach to proactively identify hazards and manage safety risk. By incorporating SMS, these aviation organizations will be better able to develop and implement mitigations tailored to their specific environments and operations.

SMS doesn’t have to be hard.  In fact, our VOCUS Safety Intelligence Platform is designed to be Simple, Meaningful, and Seamless.

Another aspect of the rule-making that many might not have noticed is that it also requires those with an SMS to share hazard information with other aviation organizations so they can work collaboratively to identify and address potential safety issues.   This is an area where VOCUS has already established features that foster community sharing!  Airport risks, Risk Control Advisories, Checklists, and Benchmarking are all ways in which an operator can not only keep itself safer but also coordinate information and collaborate with it’s customers and partners to “Elevate Safety Together”…the Polaris Aero focus!
