Being Part of Something Bigger than Your Operation

In aviation, progress has always come from learning, especially learning from each other.  Pilots learning about approach and departure nuances at airports they’ve never been to, Maintainers getting a helpful tip from a fellow AMT, and Schedulers and Dispatchers learning about customs and airport services at a trade show or online forum are all examples of where the information sharing that occurs in Business Aviation is a real thing.  This external information is super valuable for saving time, improving operational effectiveness, and, most of all, remaining as safe as possible.

Organizations are only as smart as the sum total of their personnel.  So how can we maximize external learning of tips and techniques without sending everyone to offsite meetings and events?  Lots of ways!

Many participate in Regional Safety Roundtables or benchmarking groups like the Aviation Directors Roundtable and Chief Pilots Roundtable.  ASIAS is a government-driven database that collects safety events and provides airport-level summaries to inform crews of safety incident trends.  The challenge, however, is that these one-off events and data sources are decoupled from your operation’s normal workflows and require each individual to seek out and use this information as part of their day job. Not quite as effective and timely as we’d like!

Across every VOCUS application, powerful sharing features make it easy for teams to exchange safety knowledge, apply lessons learned, and adopt proven methodologies developed by peers throughout the industry.  Organizations that utilize VOCUS can see, interact with, and contribute to this community-driven database as part of their normal workflows, expanding the insights that are so critical to their own successful mission; but greatly inform the missions of others at the same time.

The VOCUS Vanguard community of users has evolved around this sharing principle.   Managing safety for your own operation is fantastic, helping the rest of the industry is being part of something bigger!  When we all share our collective knowledge, every department gains the combined experience of hundreds. Every pilot flies with the collective wisdom of the industry. Every Maintenance & Line Technician benefits from shared tribal knowledge. Your entire operation becomes more prepared for mission success.  Isn’t that what this is all about?
